Osijek hosted the final series of the Fashion Incubator “Do you speak Fashion. Portanova was the place for people who wanted to see fashion up close on the runway. It was the 17th edition for the show to have some of the most talented designers for a chance to compete for “Best Young Designer.” Featuring Anthony Avangard, Mirjana Klepić (JAMOI), Tomislav Kliškinić and Marko Šabarić (Brand KLISAB), Mona Lacko, Sonja Lamut.
In Tvrđa June 13, 2017, was a very busy day as people from Osijek and surrounding communities came to this Holy event. The Pilgrimage is one of the biggest days in Osijek with thousands of believers flocking to the area for the confessions and to see the church. The celebration of Saint Anthony’s feast happens every year on June 13 as it has done for centuries.
For anyone who loves extreme sports, the Pannonian Challenge lives up to it in Croatia. With every year the athletes put together their wildest moves to win the competition. This will be the 18 years for this annual event, with BMX riders, Skateboarders, and Pro Inline skaters to take the show by storm. With this year the one thing no one expected was to have access to the sports events free. The concerts and after parties run late into the night. (There is still a ticket charge for the Pannonian Music series). With part of last year's events being put on hold, this year was their chance to shine. The location for Pannonian Challenge has the best place along the left bank of the river Drava. The event has people from around the globe to watch with many people coming back year after year. The announcers did a great job jumping from speaking Croatian and then instantaneously French or English depending on the athlete that was on the course. The Pannonian Challenge runs from June 7 to 11 with much to see and do.
Vendors were on the scene to keep things interesting with a video game area to chill out in with friends. There was also an area for some great memorabilia for the event with vendors being creative selling art made out of broken skateboards. Sponsor also brought their game with some free swag and food.
Yesterday at the Pro Inline warm ups in the stands was full of life with the DJ pumping the music loud that got the show moving. The Inline skaters were glad to be here in this year's competition, as last year it was rained out. This time around the Pannonian Challenge brought some new talented to the skate park athletes. With more Pro Inline athletes at the event showing their latest move and talent, taken the skate park to a new level.
The program got a lot more interesting with the skills being put to the test. Watching the moves and the way the Inline skates stuck to the wall, made it look like they could stick at any given angle. The acrobatics of the talented athletes took a great deal of strength to harness the power to do a free handstand at the edge of the wall. It was about getting the right speed and accuracy of taking off grabbing as much height and air to do the somersault triple flip. Errors could be made at this level of skill mastering the most difficult moves. For that one split second that they slipped or fell, they recovered instantly to avoid penalty. The move was then re-attempted to get that jump needed to complete the trick. The amount of support and encouragement from other competitors was incredible as they got the crowd to cheer them on. The team of athletes stuck together and watched their competitions every move. Here are just some of the photos from Yesterday.
If you were not out and about in Osijek this past weekend you missed a lot of fun. With the weather being hot and not a cloud in the sky could spoil the Re-Art Festival. This two day festival called ReArt brought a lot of creative talent from: Artists, Musicians, Writers, Photographers, Actors, Dancers, and more. The one challenge was that artistic work had to be created by hand without the use of machines or very little. It brought the community together with creative minds sharing ideas and thoughts. There was a magical feeling in the air with the transformation of space to this amazing event in Tvrđa. The sights and sound of performance made the narrow streets busy with some incredible performances. The fun part was finding the event and how the artist transformed the space. Many of the events captured the audience’s attention because it was new fresh ideas that explored art and the urban setting. Musicians helped create the atmosphere as performers raced by to start the next show. With every part of Tvrđa alleys held something from an art installation to a live performance.
Earlier in the morningI caught up with some very talented artist at the show some I had meet before and others that were new. Željka Fuderer Levak who is the creator of Elastic.Heart brought to the show incredible work that has been inspiring. Her work has created much attention in the art world with depth to the title “Elastic Heart”. The use of hearts in her drawing and creations have become an iconic symbol in her work. Each face she draws has a certain elegance of grace with the thin lines used to create the image. The medium of her work can be transferred into any material, while still keeping the flow of her art theme. Each piece is handmade art, her style of drawing is really well characterized in the use of lines, shapes and images as being unique and stands out. To understand her artwork and outlook is incredible as she clearly defines the integrity of her design. At the Re-art festival you could find her at the entrance to exhibit as she brought to the cushions, handbags and more. Official Facebook page is Elastic Heart Art
A talented young team created LLC woodwork were introduced to me by Željka. At first look everything looked brand new with packaging. She pointed out this team created new stuff from making use of the wood from old broken skateboards. For any skateboard fan this was a really is a cool idea, after all how many boards do they break doing incredible tricks. What really was the thing that separated them from the rest? The team member explained that from the broken skateboards they would search for piece that had great colours and cool wooden textures. The painted piece of wood that had vivid colour were cut out from the skateboard, and was carefully re-pieced together again creating some extraordinary art. Small Pieces could be mixed and match together creating some incredible necklaces. The other parts of the board could also be restored and polished up to make sunglasses. There was so many possibilities that the skateboard could also be used as new art and more usable items. Official face book page: [ LLC ]https://www.facebook.com/elcecesk8/
The evening was the place to be even though it was still hot. The ambient lighting created a totally different atmosphere. With live concerts happening from well-known Musicians in the narrow streets made amazing acoustics. To see some of the things you missed the Organizers of REART put together some incredible photos of the past two days on their Facebook page.
There is nothing like the sound of burning rubber and tires spinning on hot pavement. Osijek Street race was on today and the competition was fierce. There were cars of various street racers from the entry level to the ones that take it to the extreme with NOS kits and more. People had brought their cars to the track from all over Croatia and neighbouring countries. With the sun beating on the pavement and keeping the tires on the slick track for a good start proved to be part of the fun. Motorcycles did the classic burn out just to get some traction on the hot quarter mile airstrip. With the judges watching it was a sight to be seen. Getting a good solid start with the countdown made the difference between winning and lost time on the track.
The judges sat close to the track with their laptops taken notes of the competition. The winners will be announced on the official facebook page: Osijek Street race The Osijek street race continues tomorrow Sunday.
