Davis Cup in Osijek Through the lenses of Photographer
Osijek had the honors of hosting the “Davis Cup” for tennis at the sports complex “Dvorana Gradskom vrtu”. For many Tennis fans in Croatia this was a priceless moment in history to be able to attend the Davis Cup. Some of the best moments in Photography that brought the event to life. Osijek was part of history once again as it has been 20 years ago since it was last held here. Photography of being close to game and being amongst the fans are just as important as the players. The work of the photographer is key to capppturing that one shoot that sets the atmosphere and story telling for fans that missed the opportunity of being at the game. I wanted to get behind the scenes and do a story about the photography and seeing what goes on in the press room. Who better to talk to then Zoran Cindrić (Zoran Osijek)
Going behind the scene and the press conferences The press center is one side the fans of the sport often don’t get a chance to learn about. The press room is the back bone where pre and post production footage is loaded up via laptop back to the editors for photo selection which now involves social media more than ever interacting with fans. Many of us believe that writers and photographers get special seating in the stands. This is not the case in sporting events as Photographers do get to roam around with a special permit. However sometimes are only assigned to certain zones for different segments of the game. Most of the photograph are screened, cropped and edited in the press room, which many of the fans never get to see.
I had a chance to ask Zoran what it was like socializing and hanging out with the Croatian team.
Zoran said “Socializing with the Croatian national team was a great opportunity. They were very relaxed and easy to talk to. Most of the time smiling and fun to be around. They were making statements relaxed and without any fear. I was standing in front of the team, whose players are among the best 20 in the world in ATP ranking. They are in one of the top 100 in the ATP rankings.”
The players felt welcome in being in Front of Osijecko-Baranjsko fans. They boosted the energy for players in the game.
Photographing the perfect shoot. It takes a lot of patients and time for being at the tennis match as some sets can last up to 4 hours. There are the rare moments when watching doubles in Tennis. In which the player on the team gives the hand signal to his colleague of where to aim the ball. The most people will remember is the moment the player has won and gives that amazing facial expression of accomplishment.
