Osijek Half Marathon was held this past weekend with record turn-out and great weather. With more athletes each year showing up as word got out about the City of Osijek being the place to be. People gathered as early as 7 in the morning to take part in the annual event. For some it was a great chance to register last minute to sign up. People arrived from all over the Croatia as far as the coast and Neighbouring Countries.
Runners received a T-shirt and other great things in a gift bag once they signed up the race. The Medallion was impressive with Osijek Famous Pedestrian Bridge encompassed into the design. Trg Ante Starčevića was the starting and finishing line with race clearly marked along the route through out Osijek.
Kids were up first for the Children’s Race with free entry that started at 9 am. The length of the course depended on the category. For the little ones it was 250 meter run around the Square. And for the oldest was 1.500 Meter. Everyone had fun and at the Finish line they received Ice Cream and other treats from the participating sponsors.
The half marathon kicked off at 10:30 as runners warmed up for their specific category. The profile of the race was fairly flat making this run a great for Entry level and the more experienced a quicker course to have personal best time. Refreshments were placed every 5km as runners paced themselves running the distance. Friends and Family lined the course route to cheer on the runners given them the extra encouragement needed.

After the Marathon for many runners it was the adrenaline was still pumping with the successful completion and receiving the Medallion. Around the square crowds gathered to snap the victory with friends to remember the event. For some they wrote on the face book that their muscles would be hurting for the next few days. It was great experience catching up with family and cheering them on celebrating the run. This is the 13 year for Osijek to host Ferivi Half Marathon congratulations to all that participated and made it a success. Special thanks to volunteers, police, and emergency responders that made it fun and a safe place to be.
